Where is Athens?
Athenia now known as Athens is the capital city of Greece with a population of close to 655,780. It is located in the South East of Greece. Athens is also one of the oldest citys in the world which dates around 3,400 years. Evidence of it's history is still represented today, the most famous being the Parthenon.

Parthenon
One of the most popular places to visit in Athens is the Parthenon. The Parthenon temple is dedicated to Athena, Greek goddess. The people of Athens think of Athena as their virgin patron. The Parthenon is a temple on the Athenian Acropolis. The Parthenon is located above the city of Athens and contains great architectural remains of ancient buildings. The construction of the Parthenon took over 9 years to build. The Parthenon is one of the remaining reminders of Acient Greece.
Modern Olympic Games
In 1896 Athens sought the revival of the Modern Olympic games by Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin. The stadiums used for these Olympics was the Kallimarmaro and Zappeion. The Kallimarmaro stadium is a replica the ancient Athenian stadium located.
1906 Athens held the Intercalated Games and was an international multi-sport event, considered the Second International Olympic Games. This idea of an intermediate games lost support from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and these games were discontinued.
Anthens did not host another Olympic Games until 2004. This was the second time Athens hosted the Modern Olympic Games.
